1. Cane Creek State Park
Established in 1992 and managed by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, Cane Creek State Park is a top-rated destination for anyone looking for a place to unwind in a beautiful nature reserve. Covering a territory of a little over 2,000 acres, this state park is located along the Mississippi Delta and is characterized by its rolling hills, steep ridges, thick forests, and the beautiful Cane Creek Lake.
Cane Creek State Park is located a little under 75 miles southeast of downtown Little Rock, making it possible to get here in about an hour by car, driving along route I-530. Those planning to explore the area for more than a day can stay in one of the park’s cabins or set up their tent in the large open campground. This nature reserve is popular for a vast array of activities including hiking, geocaching, kayaking, fishing, and mountain biking.
2. Lake Catherine State Park
Located 55 miles southwest of Little Rock, Lake Catherine State Park is an excellent day trip destination for those wanting to recharge their batteries with a relaxing hike or a lakeside picnic with friends. Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corp and covering a territory of about 2,200 acres, this public recreation area welcomes visitors from all over the state with amenities including a large campground, boat ramps, swimming areas, and hiking trails.
Driving from Little Rock to the entrance of Lake Catherine State Park takes less than an hour along route I-30. Once here, some popular activities include kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and camping. This nature reserve is also known for a series of stone and wood cabins that were listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to their architectural value. 3. Pinnacle Mountain State Park
Featuring scenic hikes, beautiful mountain vistas, an arboretum, and a visitor center, Pinnacle Mountain State Park is another fantastic destination that can be reached in about 20 minutes by car from downtown Little Rock. This public recreation area spans an area of about 2,400 acres and was established in 1977. The most popular activities here are hiking and mountain biking, with several trails open for visitors.
