Covering an area of a little over 360 acres, Lake Ouachita State Park opened its doors to the public in 1965 and has since been a well-known spot among boaters, anglers, and other water sports enthusiasts. This nature reserve is located about 70 miles west of the Arkansas state capital and can be reached in about one hour and 20 minutes via route I-30.

2. Lake Dardanelle State Park

Featuring picnic facilities, playgrounds, pavilions, and boat ramps, Lake Dardanelle State Park is another excellent spot to spend a day or a weekend having fun with your friends and family. The main geographical feature of this nature reserve is Lake Dardanelle, a major reservoir on the Arkansas River that boasts a surface area of about 40,000 acres.

Offering great opportunities for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, picnicking, and other recreational activities, Lake Dardanelle State Park is located about 85 miles northwest of the Little Rock city center, making it possible to reach it in about one hour and 20 minutes via route I-40. Managed by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, this public recreation area is open year-round between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

3. Lake Catherine State Park

Located just 55 miles southwest of downtown Little Rock, Lake Catherine State Park sits on the southern shores of a 2,000-acre reservoir and provides great opportunities for a plethora of water sports and other activities. Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this public recreation area covers a territory of over 2,000 acres and features cabins, a family campground, boat rental shops, picnic areas, swimming spots, hiking trails, and public boat launches.
