Little Rock, AR is the state capital and county seat of Pulaski County. There is a lot to love about the city, including educational museums, awe-inspiring architecture, historic places, and some of the best food in the state. However, sometimes you need to get away from the city to relax and unwind. Little Rock has you covered. Today, we’re talking about our four favorite local hiking trails near the state capital.

4 Favorite Local Hiking Trails Near Little Rock, AR

1. Pinnacle Mountain West Summit Trail

If you’re looking for a fairly challenging hike, you need to explore the Pinnacle Mountain West Summit Trail. This 1.5-mile trail starts at the park’s picnic grounds but winds all the way to the pinnacle of Pinnacle Mountain. From this peak, you can bask in the beautiful view of Lake Maumelle, West Little Rock, the Arkansas River Valley, and the Ouachita Mountains. The view is truly breathtaking.

If you take the same path you hiked up to return to your vehicle, your trip will take you roughly 30 minutes plus the time you spent soaking up the scenery. For a small change of pace, you can hike down the East Summit trail and return to your vehicle via the base trail. This will give you a total hike of 2.5 miles.

2. River Mountain Park Trail

The River Mountain Park Trail is 2.9 miles long but only moderate in difficulty. You should plan for this hike to take around 83 minutes plus the time you spend snapping photos of the striking streams and beautiful wildlife. With only 318 feet of elevation gain, this is the perfect trail for you to take your leashed dog on. She’ll love the turtles and chipmunks just as much as you love the wildflowers and babbling brook.

3. Allsopp Park Trail

If you’re new to hiking, you may love the Allsopp Park Trail. This 3.7-mile-long trail features 511 feet of elevation gain. However, it is nowhere near as hard to hike as the River Mountain Park trail. Although you will be surrounded by running water, wildlife, wildflowers, and trees, the trail is mostly paved. Therefore, it is very easy to traverse. We recommend bringing a snack and a bottle of water on this hike. You should expect it to take roughly 110 minutes.

4. Rock Creek Trail

The Rock Creek trail is another easy trail that is perfect for novice hikers. This 3.2-mile trail only features an elevation gain of 68 feet and should take you roughly 80 minutes to complete. This is a great trail for you to take your kids and leashed dog to get a little fresh air and exercise.
