Little Rock, AR is surrounded by wonderful places to fish. The Arkansas River runs straight through the center of town, not to mention its proximity to several parks and forests, all of which are full of rivers, streams, and lakes that have plenty of fishing spots to discover.

1. Lake Conway
Lake Conway is a large manmade lake located very close to the center of Little Rock, only a half an hour’s drive away from the center of town. The nearly 7000-acre lake is well stocked with both large and smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill, which are periodically released from a nearby upstream nursery. There are several boat ramps around the lake, all of which can be used free of charge, making it an excellent place to bring your boat.
2. Saline River
Just a 15 minute drive away, in the neighboring town of Benton, the Saline River is especially good for kayak fishing, with lots of gravel bars that make launching easy, and are also great spots to stop for a swim or a picnic. The views around the river are stunning, but it is the fishing here that speaks for itself. You can catch walleye, smallmouth bass, sunfish, and several catfish species here.
3. Pinnacle Mountain State Park
Pinnacle Mountain State Park is only a few miles away from Little Rock and is a great spot to take your whole family. There are plenty of picnic tables and a playground, as well as other facilities, and if you’ve brought a canoe with you, then this is the perfect place to launch it.
The two main spots are the state park pond, which is stocked with catfish (the daily limit is three), or the Little Maumelle River, which is a great bass fishery.
4. The Arkansas River
The Arkansas River winds its way right through the middle of Little Rock, with numerous spots to fish along its banks. One of the best stretches is between the David D. Terry Lock and the Murray Lock, in Rebsamen Park.
The river holds large stocks of both largemouth and white bass, as well as crappie and catfish that can be caught from a boat or the banks. There are boat ramps near the Verizon Arena and at Two River Park.
5. MacArthur Park Pond
This pond, in the Historic MacArthur Park, is a local favorite, well known for its annual “Big Catch” party, which takes place every year, the largest event of its kind in the state. There are also fishing classes, where all ages can learn to fish.
The pond is stocked almost exclusively with channel catfish. There is also a second derby in mid-July, where even more catfish are released into the pond.
